Known mostly for her involvement in the Stonewall Riots, Sylvia Rivera would continue to fight for queer rights decades after the historical incident. A pioneer in housing for homeless transgender youth, Sylvia and her best friend
Marsha P. Johnson faced down open discrimination and bigotry by being openly proud to be queer, women of color. They stood up for trans and gender fluid individuals, often facing criticism and hate from other members of the LGBTQ community. Because of the whitewashing queerstory, it is only in the last 20 years that Sylvia has been fully recognized for her work. It’s time we all learn more about this powerful individual. So hit that play button and enjoy the show!
