Marco Benevento talks "Musical Mentors" on Episode 47 of 'The JamBase Podcast.' The interview with JamBase's Scott Bernstein comes after "The Rundown" of recent news events. ScottyB and JamBase's Andy Kahn co-host "The Rundown" and discuss the death of Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter. The pair then share their experiences during a recent trip to California that included stops at Yo La Tengo's camping festival in Big Sur, the final day of the Santa Cruz Mountain Sol Festival and Brandi Carlile opening for Courtney Marie Andrews in San Francisco. Marco Benevento took a trip down memory lane at JamBase's New York City headquarters for his "Musical Mentors" chat with Scott Bernstein. First, the keyboardist discussed his new album, 'Let It Slide,' and the huge role of producer Leon Michaels. Benevento then recalls his earliest days as a musician and the mentorship of his father, a teacher in middle school, his manager and longtime band mate Joe Russo. Other topics covered were Marco's lesson with Brad Mehldau, starting a record label, touring with Russo, Trey Anastasio and Mike Gordon and his plans for 2020. This episode is sponsored by nugs.net.
