San Francisco designers George Brazil and Cecilia Sagrera-Hill of Sagrera Brazil Design Inc. are guided by the belief that great design is about getting to know the client.   “So much of interior design is about trust,” explains Principal George Brazil, “in part because we want to know what’s important to our clients. We need them to reveal how they live, what their needs are—who they truly are.”   It’s just that emotional connection that Principal Cecilia Sagrera-Hill says has become the touchstone of SagreraBrazil Design Inc. “We aren’t about the latest trends,” notes Cecilia, “we want families to feel energized when they come home everyday.”   In addition to a classical sense of design with attention to symmetry and proportion, the firm is known for clean lines, scale and texture. “Keeping the integrity of the past is key to our design ethos,” says George, “but we also love the imperfection of something made by hand.”   More, George and Cecilia create spaces with entertaining and large family gatherings in mind. This comes as no surprise, since George (raised in Sacramento, CA) and Cecilia (raised in El Salvador), both come from big families where time spent together around the dinner table was put at a premium.   Brazil and Sagrera-Hill met in 2001, while both working under esteemed designer James Marzo. After they both left to join other firms, they reconnected in 2003 and decided to strike out on their own as a team. SagreraBrazil Design Inc. officially opened in 2004. In 2011, they moved into their SOMA studio in the San Francisco Design District.   Both certified interior designers, George received a Interior Design BA from Cal State Sacramento and Cecilia holds an Interior Design degree from California College of the Arts (CCA). Collectively they have worked under designers Marian Wheeler, Jeff Werner, James Marzo, and Orlando Diaz-Azcuy.   When she isn’t designing, Cecilia can be found at home cooking with her husband Harold and two children. When he’s not designing, George, and his partner, Vasili, enjoy the wide array of world class art and food that the Bay Area offers.
