Welcome To The Party Pal (Osiris Media) invites you to join in on a deconstruction / celebration of the most celebrated and important film of 2019, Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite. Parasite is a South Korean dark comedy thriller directed by Joon-ho, who also wrote the film's story and co-wrote the screenplay with Han Jin-won. The film stars Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik, and Park So-dam, and follows the members of a poor household who scheme to become employed by a much wealthier family by infiltrating the household and posing as unrelated, highly qualified individuals. Among its numerous accolades, Parasite won four awards at the 92nd Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film. It became the first South Korean film to receive Academy Award recognition, as well as the first non-English language film to win Best Picture. In this episode, hosts Mitch Lucas and Michael Shields expound on the weighty social commentary present in the film centering on wealth inequality, the genius of Bong Joon-ho, the intricacies behind the film’s birth and production, and much, much more.
