Even though he served time for the car crash, Chris was once again selling drugs and abusing them. Now his using came with seizures where one time he experienced two seizures in one day.  This cycle of addiction (going in and out and back into treatment) loomed over Chris’s life. Burned out, he dropped himself into structured sober living after getting high the night before.

Entering sober living, Chris had never seen that level of accountability before. He saw people who were being constructive in trying to shift their perspective and turn their lives away from addiction. Realizing the reality of his situation Chris stayed a little longer than a year because it was important for him to be around the people who kept him accountable, direct and a man in recovery. Eventually Chris began managing that sober home.

While managing the sober home, Chris decided to go back to school taking cultural anthropology and education classes which expanded his perspective. Utilizing what he learned through school and sober living, Chris became really good at dealing with co-dependents and helping families.

Now the Founder/Program Director of Ethos Recovery, Chris continues to work with families now using what he learned in sober living to establish everything from peer feedback to mentor programs for them. Chris believes he’s been given a gift by being able to work with families. Looking back, he remembers once being an addict who “was like a dumpster,” and who has now transformed into someone who is telling parents what boundaries they need to set with their kids.
