Gail Shields-Miller has a passion for art and design which led her to assume the helm of a family interior design business in 1987. She came to the business with a varied background, having been a speech pathologist/audiologist and a real estate broker prior to getting her hands wet in the interior design business. Having grown up with art and design all around her and majoring in design in college, in was an easy fit to round out her education at Parsons and plunge into a business that was second nature to her. The globe trotting designer and prolific blogger (dezignlicious.com) covers major design events at the request of numerous public relations firms and has written for other formidable design blogs, such as Modenus.com, Houzz.com and DabbleMag.com.  She has also been a featured guest on BlogTalkRadio: Small Business Forum with Tony Wilkins. In the past she has been featured in numerous design magazines and publications including House Beautiful, Veranda, Interior Design, New York Spaces and The New York Times.  Her much-published work appears in Spectacular Homes Metro, The Showcase of Interior Design, The Kitchen and Bath Color Book, Design Sense and Designing With Details.  The design tastemaker made her on-air debut when she was tapped for Open House NYC on NBC, and was featured on HGTV’s “Bang for the Buck.” An ardent supporter of several arts, cultural and charitable organizations, Gail has been a featured designer in the prestigious Kips Bay Decorator Show House and Hampton Designer Show House, as well as the Junior League and Cerebral Palsy House Tours. She is actively affiliated with organizations that promote, preserve and protect our history, our environment and quality of life including: The Central Park Conservancy, The U.S. Holocaust Museum, The Ocean Beach Community Fund, Police Athletic League and Canine Companions For Independence. She remains passionately committed to a trio of her favorite local museums: Museum of Art and Design (MAD), where she is on the Acquisitions Committee, the New Museum and the Museum Del Barrio. The firm she manages with her partner, Daniel Vanhall, SHIELDS COMPANY, serves up celebrated classic and contemporary interiors, characterized by the firm’s elegant boldness and exotic flair.  With clients from Bombay to the Bahamas and beyond, Shields-Miller delivers sophisticated and refined interiors seasoned with a dash of the unexpected.  Her clients’ homes are a beautiful mélange of culture, craft and creativity, carefully blended to meet client needs while respecting their tastes and lifestyles.  So great is Gail’s quest for the rare and wonderful, that suggesting she will go to the ends of the earth to unearth a treasure for a client is no overstatement.
