In episode 36, we’re going back to college to learn about clean energy (well kind of). We’re actually talking with Lee Ball, Chief Sustainability Officer at Appalachian State University and Casey Collins, Energy Manager at Duke University to learn how these institutions have positioned themselves as regional and nationwide leaders in clean energy.
On this episode, we hear about how goals that were created at the very first Appalachian Energy Summit in 2012 have become reality with more than $1 billion in energy savings achieved across the entire UNC system by the end of 2019. Even further, Lee outlines the system’s goal of achieving another $1 billion in energy savings by 2025. We also have a chance to speak with Casey Collins about the 2024 carbon neutrality goal established for Duke University. To help achieve this goal, Duke University recently announced their participation in Duke Energy’s Green Source Advantage program to procure 101 MW of off-campus solar generation.
