Submit ReviewIt is NHL free agency day, which means that there are over 150 signings, trades and pieces of follow up from draft weekend to talk about. Let's do that podcast!
The Minnesota Wild got the sliding Jesper Wallstedt with the Edmonton Oilers pick. Why didn't the Oilers pick him? And yet, the Oilers didn't make the worst choice in the draft. The Montreal Canadiens stepped in to steal that honor from them. Those moves aside, who were the winners and losers of the draft?
Leading up to free agency a number of trades happened, including:
- Cam Atkinson and Jakub Voracek being swapping by the Columbus Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers
- Marc-Andre Fleury being dealt for nothing
- Tyler Johnson being a salary dump to the Chicago Blackhawks
- Nate Schmidt and Brenden Dillon being acquired by the Winnipeg Jets
- Darcy Kuemper is traded to the Colorado Avalance mid-show
As nearly $800 million was handed out in free agency, we dive into the signings of:
- Alexander Ovechkin
- Philipp Grubauer and the rest of the goalies on the market
- Dougie Hamilton
- Gabriel Landeskog
- Cale Makar
- Mike Hoffman
- Phillip Danault
- Ryan Suter
- Blake Coleman
- Zach Hyman
- Tyson Barrie
- Nick Foligno
- Pavel Buchnevich
