On July 25, 1841, Mary Cecilia Rogers told her fiance she was leaving to visit family. Her body was found floating in the Hudson River three days later. Edgar Allan Poe heard of her mysterious demise and sought to solve her murder through his writing. In 1842, he published the first detective story inspired by a true crime, “The Mystery of Marie Roget.” This is Based on a True Crime. Based on a True Crime is a podcast where Chelsea’s love of true crime and David’s love of horror movies intersect. Each week we will be discussing murders and/or mysteries, along with the pop culture they have spawned.
