Ramsay Gourd was born in 1965 and raised in Wilton, Connecticut. Descending from a long line of artists and designers, he drew and painted from the time he could hold a brush. He studied architecture at Cornell University, both in upstate New York and Rome, Italy.
Upon graduation, Ramsay moved to Boston, where he worked for the noteworthy firms of Moshe Safdie and Graham Gund Architects. In 1995, he established Ramsay Gourd Architects in the bucolic setting of Manchester, Vermont.
In 2014, Ramsay launched his eponymous brand, Ramsay Gourd Home, featuring a collection of fabric, furniture and wall coverings. This venture provided an opportunity for him to more fully customize his projects, design textiles and furnishings specific to his clients and their projects.
Today, Ramsay’s practice continues to thrive with its clearly defined philosophy of a fresh take on classical ideas. His work has been featured in numerous publications including House Beautiful, Better Homes and Gardens, Beautiful Homes, New England Home, Design New England, Dream Kitchens, Colorscapes, Vermont Magazine and Great Kitchen and Bath Ideas.
Whether in the form of architecture, furniture, textiles or wallcoverings, Ramsay’s designs reflect his respect for tradition and its adaptation for modern lifestyles.
