Each time we watch these mid-2000 movies from Van Damme, we always find ourselves surprised. By now, we should automatically assume that each movie he does is gold. We don’t know if it’s because Hollywood has drilled it into our heads that straight-to-dvd movies aren’t the best or that we don’t expect much in the way of action films without giant budgets. Or maybe we get movies like Derailed that put us back into our pessimistic place with wary eyes. But Wake of Death surprised us. Violent, gritty, and nasty, this movie was almost the complete package.
