Collateral is a 2004 art house action directed by Michael Mann starring Tom Cruise as a rare villain Vincent, sauve but deadly and Jamie Foxx as cab driver Max who picks up hitman for hire Vincent. It co stars Jada Pinkett Smith as Annie, Mark Ruffalo as Detective Fanning and Javier Bardem as Felix, the drug lord orchestrating the hits. Collateral is both a dialled down and dialled up Cruise all in one. Managing to play the silent and deadly hitman, existing in the shadows of the underworld while demonstrating such expert shooting skills that his tactical draw is used by experts in handgun training. Foxx, who also prepared for the role by driving a taxi, holds his own against arguably the biggest movie star in the world. His lonely Max with failed ambitions forced to assert himself and stop making excuses.
