Wrestle Kingdom 11 went down this past Wednesday (at some God forsaken time because time zones) and it was insane.  Plenty of great matches took place at the historic January 4th event, but one match stood above them all. That match was the main event for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.  The champion, Kazuchika Okada, defended it against New Japan’s first gaijin G1 winner, Kenny Omega.  This match was highly anticipated, but I don’t think anyone expected Dave Meltzer to give the match SIX STARS.  Yes, that’s right.  A star above FIVE (it’s gotta be the Tokyo Dome).    Here’s Meltz himself giving his thoughts on the historic match:

How good is Okada? He only turns 30 in November and has had five 5-star matches in a little over a year.  Kenny Omega really proved his worth as a viable main eventer for New Japan and will surely hold the IWGP title (should he stay with the promotion).  Kaz and I also give our thoughts on Meltzer’s ratings and how people react (or even overreact to them).

We also discuss the ROH title match between Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly.  O’Reilly won the ROH title at Final Battle 2016 despite not having a new contract with the company.  When news broke that he allegedly turned down an ROH contract and was WWE-bound, the outcome of the match seemed to be a foregone conclusion as Cole defeated O’Reilly (in just 10 minutes) to be come the only 3-time ROH champion.  This booking has ROH fans asking the question of, “why even put the belt on O’Reilly?”  Adam Cole’s future with ROH is also discussed on this episode.
