Submit ReviewThis week we switched things up. We had planned a discussion of Don’t Think Twice and The Place Beyond The Pines but in honor of the 4th of July holiday we decided to discuss the Netflix Original documentary Five Came Back (2017). A fascinating documentary about five of the most iconic film directors of all time John Ford, John Huston, George Stevens, Frank Capra and William Wyler and their experience when they signed up to go to World War II and make documentaries for the US government. Five Came Back also delves into the directors personal lives and how their work was affected by their experiences in the war. Featuring Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Paul Greengrass, Lawrence Kasdan and Guillermo Del Toro the documentary is an impressive collection of historical footage and is crafted with a beautiful style. The three part documentary manages to be both informative and enjoyable to watch. Next as a special segment we discuss the 10 directors in Five Came Back and our favorite films of theirs. Nick tackles the five classic directors Stevens, Ford, John Huston, Capra and Wyler. While Joe discusses his favorites of Spielberg, Coppola, Greengrass, Kasdan and Del Toro. Next week we will have our previously planned episode with a discussion of the Mike Birbiglia film Don’t Think Twice and the Derek Cianfrance film The Place Beyond the Pines.
As always a huge thank you to @sumkilla for our amazing theme sing and bumper music.
