For the final episode of our collaborative podcast series with Denman Professional, I'm sitting down for a conversation with the iconic British barber, Mike Taylor. From launching his first barbershop in Newbury at the age of 20 to spearheading the renowned Bonds barbershop chain and three training academies, Mike's journey is nothing short of inspiring. As the founder of the British Barbers Association and the UK's first barbering Master Craftsman, Mike brings a wealth of experience to the table.  We are to delve into the current landscape of the barbering industry and tackle pressing issues faced by barbers today. Our conversation takes a special focus on education, exploring how to promote apprenticeships in barbering and the significance of recognised qualifications versus self-taught methods on platforms like YouTube. Yes YouTube!! Mike Taylor shares his thoughts on breaking barriers for aspiring barbers, offering guidance on how young people can enter the field and emphasising the importance of a formal education. We also hear how he has been a catalyst for positive change, lobbying the council for funding to support a class of learners who often fall through the cracks between school and all, by developing a barbering student kit. But thats not all! Mike is to share with us about the launch of the "Generation Barber" event next year, a groundbreaking initiative for college students, sponsored by Denman Professional.
