Mood has such an impact on our interpersonal relationships (which is why I tend to isolate) and music has such an impact on our mood. A study published in the Journal of affective disorders in 1995 by Bouhuys et al explored this. They played sad songs for 24 people who did not suffer from any kind of mood disorder and 12 (thats HALF) showed substantial differences in experienced depression after listening to the sad music. They perceived more rejection from “neutral” faces and rated faces overall more sad/angry, perceiving this sadness/anger as directed at them. They also perceived less invitation and happiness in faces than they had before listening to the music.
