Everyone's stoked for Michael Dougherty's new GODZILLA movie right? Do you remember the first time that Hollywood tried to tackle the big green guy? 

Back in 1998, the team behind the smash hit INDEPENDENCE DAY decided to take a stab at Japan's iconic kaiju with... less than stellar results, according to most critics (and audiences).

Backed by one of the largest marketing campaigns ever, the film failed to make much of an impact at the box office, resulting in the scrapping of plans for an entire trilogy of films. In this episode, we'll examine just what went wrong.
