Hello music lovers! On this week’s special episode we introduce listeners to a new discussion series called “Views in Review”. This series will feature an in depth discussion of a particular piece of media & entertainment that makes a significant impact in our everyday lives. This could be anything from music, television, podcasts, movies, etc. In the first "Views in Review" we discuss The New York Times audio series called The 1619 project. This project was created to dive into the historical start of American Slavery and its impact on American history, as 2019 marks the 400th Anniversary of the start of American slavery. The 1619 project discusses the true history and its consequences that is often not told in schools and history books. Episode 3 of The 1619 project "The birth of American Music” discusses how black music became the sound of America. During this episode, we talk about how music created during captivity birthed the large range of musical styles and genres we have in America today. We also talk about Fat Joe’s recent comments surrounding the subject of black music within the latino community which stirred up a lot of commentary on social media.
