From Angela: When you're going through something difficult, do you ever think about how that situation is changing you for the better? What about the lessons and learnings that come from things being hard? On today's episode, I interview Elizabeth Lesser, author of Broken Open: How Difficult Times Can Help Us Grow, a book I read over the fall this year. This book had a profound effect on me and I was excited when Elizabeth accepted my offer to come on the show to talk about it. We also discuss her new book, Cassandra Speaks: When Women are the Storytellers, the Human Story Changes and we spend half of the interview discussing how the way stories have been passed on has formed the way we as women think about speaking up today. Elizabeth shares her insights from the book, personal stories from her life, and advice for anyone wanting to share their expertise but thinks they're not ready. She's also the cofounder of Omega Institute, recognized internationally for its workshops and conferences in wellness, spirituality, creativity, and social change. Elizabeth has given two popular TED talks, and is one of Oprah Winfrey’s Super Soul 100, a collection of a hundred leaders who are using their voices and talent to elevate humanity.

Before the interview, Joli and I share some of our favorite moments from the interview, what's bringing us joy these days, what we're working on, and updates on our next episode. If you want to skip right to the interview, it starts at 41:50.
