Submit ReviewHi! Taylor here! So this episode came to me when I had an epiphany a few weeks ago. I’ve (arguably) been spending too much time on the clock app, but realized that because of some awesome creators, my body image has improved a lot. So many amazing women are simply sharing what their bodies look like naturally, working out, hanging out, dancing and simply just in different clothes and bikinis (even if sometimes TikTok censors some bodies and not others 😡😡)
So when I texted Jaqueline about my epiphany, she said me too!! So I said YAY! We must do an episode on this!!
TikTok is bad and good in the way that it just shows you more of what you want to see. So the trick is to be really intentional about what videos you like and interact with. Or don’t and see what your subconscious is projects back to you - calling myself out here hehe.
I think that I will always struggle with my body image throughout my life, even though I’m actively working on doing it less. But I am still very privileged in my straight/midsized body. As I mentioned earlier, TikTok is notorious for censoring people’s bodies who don’t fit the toxic beauty standards of our society - but that is only the beginning of fatphobia. Fat people in our society are not treated the same. And though you may think that’s just an observation, you would be wrong. There are real life stats of the terrible treatment of fat people in our society, and you’ll be surprised to hear some. I definitely encourage you to read some of the articles linked below and hear these things directly from the source. Being fat is not bad or unhealthy. And I will be saying that over and over ‘til the grave until I reprogram all the false truths I grew up with. So listen in to hear our full discussion on this on how we can continue to change our minds.
