Guest Producer – Chiara Boschis
Chiara is a superstar in the Italian wine world. A revolutionary who has worked incredibly hard to help grow both her winery and the entire region of Barolo. Growing up in Barolo, the young Chiara Boschis studied Economics at University before her family purchased E.Pira & Figli in 1981, propelling her into a role significantly different to what she intended. Becoming the only female oenologist working in Barolo at the time bringing her considerable determination, charm and confidence to raising the quality and profile of E. Pira. The only women in the legendary “Barolo boys” was a strong force in making the world start to notice the quality of wines from Barolo. Her philosophy is to craft wines that marry the extraordinary power of Barolo with approachability through strict vineyard management, careful selection and impeccable vinification techniques. All work on her vines is strictly manual and carried out with extreme care and respect for the environment and is certified organic since the 2014 harvest and is working to get all of Cannubi Hill to be organic. In 2010 Chiara’s brother Giorgio, also a winemaker, joined the business and the two expanded their holdings to include Mosconi and Ravera in Monforte and Gabutti in Serralunga. In addition, Giorgio’s daughter Beatrice has recently completed her enology degree so the future looks bright for a new generation at E.Pira.
