Welcome to episode 1423, in which host Victoria Cece interviews James Marshall
this week on The Next Generation.
The Next Generation where Victoria Cece interviews young Italian wine people shaking up the wine scene.
More about today’s guest:
Belgian-born, James is the winemaker at Tenuta Licinia - a small winery in the woods about 5 km from the village of Lucignano in the Province of Arezzo. He was pursuing his doctorate in moral philosophy at the University of Oxford in the UK but midway through he had the opportunity to take over as winemaker at the vineyard which was re-initiated by his grandfather about 15 years ago. He developed an interest in some of the intellectual puzzles surrounding winemaking as well as some of the broader questions surrounding wine - soon he became very interested in the relationship between subsoil structures and wine. He also grew a curiosity about the right way to think about wine quality and how to translate that way of thinking into the work we do in the vineyard. But, he remarks - his Italian, despite living in Tuscany for several years now, is still exceptionally mediocre.

More about the host:
Victoria Cece is a food and beverage storyteller whose curiosity is somewhere deep in a bowl of pasta or a bottle of wine. A fool for history, you can find her reading up about ancient grape varietals or wandering around a little Italian town eating everything in sight, under her alias Slutti Spaghetti.
