In 2022 there is still a lot that we do not know about Cancer in the African communities. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Chulu sat down with Udie and Felicity, from the Zambian Cancer Society to discuss the Cancer of Misinformation.

Udie Soko is a survivor of both cancer of the lymph nodes and breast cancer. In 2009, she founded the Zambian Cancer Society to counter the silence, shame, stigma and isolation that often surrounds the disease by providing information and support to patients and their caregivers irrespective of age, gender or type of cancer.  Udie holds a BA degree in Public Administration from the University of Zambia and a Chartered Secretary qualification. She is also a certified breast health educator and a health and fitness lifestyle advisor.

She recently co-authored a book titled - Passionately Striving in “Why”: An Anthology of Women Who Persevere Mightily to Live Their Purpose.

Mutombo Felicity Chambula Mwila, aged 46, married and a mother of 3. Two girls and one boy.

Diagnosed with Stage 2 Left breast cancer in March 2021, had a mastectomy in April 2021 and underwent chemotherapy from May to October 2022. Currently on hormonal treatment. Having realized that there is a knowledge gap in the society that we live in, she has developed a passion for cancer advocacy in order to disseminate information regarding cancer, especially breast cancer.
