It’s Episode 54! Imrie and Natalie return for the documentary One of Us. This 2017 documentary follows the lives of three people who have chosen to leave the environment of Hasidic Judaism. Did you know Hasidic Jews fear the internet? If the answer is no and you’re curious why you might find this challenging documentary of interest. A sort of expose and sort of suspense thriller this film looks at the treatment of three different people who try to leave their communities. All three stories are sad, depressing and scary, there really isn’t much positivity to take from their experiences.
Scores [supsystic-tables id='56'] While the stories of the individuals here are all important and should be be heard One of Us lacks in resolution or any kind of positivism the film lacks balance or perspective - scoring low on repeat viewing (as do most documentaries) overall we score it at 3.32 - worth an investigation.
