It’s an international break this weekend as the UEFA Nations League returns with some high-profile matches involving Spain and England as well as Germany and France. So on this week’s show we take a look at some football language connected to the UEFA Nations League, explain the term ‘spot kick‘, make some predictions and ask a football-language quiz question involving the phrase ‘to get the nod over‘. If you’d like the transcript to the show – great for learners and teachers of English – please show your support by becoming a patron (through Patreon) and if you have questions or comments, email us at: admin@languagecaster.com (Damian=DF, Damon=DB). English Through Football Podcast: 2018 UEFA Nations League – Spain v England Transcript of the show (14th October 2018) DF: You are listening to Languagecaster’s football-language podcast. Hello and welcome to the show for all those who love the game of football and who want to improve their English skills too. My name’s Damian and I’m based in a very wet and windy London – autumn is most definitely with us now. Unfortunately, Damon in Tokyo can’t be with us for this podcast but hopefully he’ll be back with us next week – it’s been a busy time for teachers both in Japan and here in the UK! Line-up Right, what do we have on this week’s show? Well, there are no domestic club matches being played this weekend in any of the top divisions around the world as it is the international break – countries are playing friendlies against each other, while in Europe the next set of matches in the UEFA Nations League are also taking place. We’ll be looking back at some of those UEFA Nations League games in our football review of the week – the good, the bad and the ugly – and we’ll also be looking forward to some of the big games from this competition in our predictions section. There is also a football-language quiz, an explanation of a footballing phrase from the week – this week we look at the phrase ‘spot-kick’ and much more in our podcast for those wanting to know more about the language of football. Stinger: You are listening to languagecaster.com (in Spanish) DF: Yes, you are listening to languagecaster.com and that was in Spanish – and you can send on a message to the show in your own language by dropping us a line at admin@languagecaster.com.
