What are the ethics of emoji design and why does it matter? What are some of the ethical concerns we should have about chatbots and virtual assistants? How can these technologies perpetuate racial and gender stereotypes? To answer these questions and more The Radical AI Podcast welcomes Dr. Miriam Sweeney to the show.

Dr. Miriam Sweeney is an assistant professor in the School of Library & Information Studies at the University of Alabama. She is a critical cultural digital media scholar who studies anthropomorphic design, virtual assistants, voice interfaces, and AI through the lenses of race, gender, and sexuality. Her current project, Facing Our Computers: Identity, Interfaces, and Intimate Data, explores the linkages between identity, design, and dataveillance in AI voice assistants, digital assistants, and chatbot interfaces.
