Electricity isn't free. The energy department created something called the E-gallon to help people understand the cost of driving an electric car whats an Egallon? It represents the cost of fueling a vehicle with electricity compared to a similar vehicle that runs on gas. It's gives us a chance to compare the cost of driving an electric car with a similar sized car that uses gasoline. Right now, it's reasonable to say it would be about 50% less to charge your vehicle with electricity than to fill it up with gasoline. Now, this does not consider the peace of mind knowing that you're not contributing to poisoning the planet. That's gotta be worth something. It also does not include the cost of maintaining your electric car, which is about $800 a year, less than a traditional combustion engine with all its parts and wear and tear.
