Berlin is a city that mingles severity and style, Western abundance, Soviet austerity and where brutalism and the baroque live cheek by jowl. It's also the home of maestro Lydia Tár, Cate Blanchett's complex, bravura character in director Todd Field's Tár, a film dripping with power dressing and suave German design. Tár wears authority and genius in a suit, a button-down shirt, cashmere vests and pleated pants. The film's costume designer, Bina Daigeler, shares her inspiration behind the costume design: from the grey skies of Berlin to the elegance of Austrian conductor Herbert von Karajan.
