Former Spy Boss Dennis Richardson says over years the Government awarded contracts to companies linked to suspected arms and drug smuggling, corruption and bribery to run Australia's offshore asylum seeker processing centres.

Minister for Home Affairs, Clare O'Neil says this is about the leadership of the department "at the time". She says under the stewardship of now Opposition leader Peter Dutton, a culture of "don't ask, don't tell" was cultivated in Home Affairs.

Guest: Clare O'Neil, Minister for Home Affairs
