One of the key recommendations of the parliamentary inquiry into online betting harm was that the federal government should bring in a national regulator.

Currently the Northern Territory Racing Commission has become the de-facto regulator for many of the biggest sports betting companies in the country, after they set up shop in Darwin to minimise tax.
