Making friends is already hard to do, but when you add in mommyhood there seems to be a further critical impact on maintaining and creating new friendships during such an exhausting, isolating, and overwhelming phase of life where such connections may be most important. In this episode, Alysa chats with her two mommy friends, Jenny and Amanda, first, about the all-important friendship origin stories and, then, second, about how their friendships changed once they became mothers. What occurs is an open and honest discussion about identity issues, trying to do it all by their mommy selves, loneliness and depression, talking with people “who get it,” and truly finding the best way to carve out time for oneself and for friends as they navigate the twists and turns of motherhood. In the end, doing so is good for moms, their friends, and their children.
