"That's what she said" is the most cliche dad joke that you are probably tired of hearing. Where did it come from? This phrase is a form of innuendo that takes innocent statements out of context and makes them sound lewd or sexual. It first appeared in 1975 on Saturday Night Live but it goes back even further to Edwardian period England around 1910:

There, the line was "as the actress says to the bishop," in reference to actresses — whose company could be purchased after performances — confessing their sins to clergymen.
