If you ever wondered what old timey fans mean when they prattle on about the intensity and ferocity of the Battle of Alberta, you need wonder no more. Yes, the Oilers lost 4-3 in the shoot-out on two hits posts by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Connor McDavid, but the good guys don't always win these things. This game had the elements of a classic 1980s Edmonton-Calgary battle. * Fighters fighting each other. * Non-fighters fighting each other. * A sneaky and dirty hit or two. * A weird goal against that made you groan with agony. * Excellent saves at both ends. * Great offensive chances by Edmonton superstars that lifted you from your seat. * Ugly Oilers defensive breakdowns leading to Flames goals. * And an unlikely hero or two, starting with Edmonton's Matt Benning who somehow went supernova on a rush in the third to score a massive goal.
