Dr. Deborah Birx of the White House Coronavirus Task Force says if you traveled over Thanksgiving and attended a large gathering, just go ahead and assume you’ve been infected and get tested. You should also stay away from senior citizens and people with comorbidities.

The FAA confirmed the first mass air shipment of vaccine, charter flights bringing Pfizer's vaccine to the U.S. from Belgium, started Friday. But while preparations are ramping up, shipment to actual administration sites is not allowed until the FDA authorizes the vaccine.

California reported a record number of hospitalizations. 7,415 reported on Saturday, a big jump from Friday’s figure of 6,972. Hospitalizations in that state have more than doubled in two weeks and the number of people in ICU with the virus is also near a record. Nationwide, hospitalizations reached another record — 91,635 on Saturday.

How a country reports its Covid numbers matters. Turkey recently changed how it reports daily infections, from just those being treated for symptoms to everyone who tests positive. The result? The realization there’s an alarming surge of cases exhausting the Turkish health system. With the new data, the country jumped from being one of the least-affected countries in Europe to one of the worst.

New York City’s Mayor says they’ll reopen schools to in-person learning and raise the number of days a week many children attend class. The reversal comes less than two weeks after the Mayor said schools were closing because of a rising number of cases in the city.

The top 10 counties with the highest number of recent cases per capita according to The New York Times: Powell, MT. Crowley, CO. Presidio, TX. Ellis, OK. Ellsworth, KS. Crockett, TX. Crawford, WI. Rush, KS. Foster, ND. And Dewey, SD.

There are now 5,370,129 active cases in the United States. The current Top 10 states by number of active cases: California, Illinois, Florida, Arizona, Texas, Missouri, Virginia, Michigan, New York, and Maryland. 

The five states with the most daily new cases per capita over 7 days are Montana, Minnesota, Wyoming, South Dakota, and North Dakota.

The reproduction rate is currently highest in Oregon with a particularly high 1.63 average, then New Hampshire, Washington, Arizona, and Maine. The states with the lowest reproduction rate are Illinois, South Dakota, Iowa, North Dakota, and Mississippi.

There’ve been a total 266,838 deaths in the US reported as COVID-related, with a current national fatality rate of 2.03%.

The states with the most new deaths reported as COVID-related: Pennsylvania 65. Florida 59. Minnesota 57. Texas 54. Massachusetts 46. Illinois 44. New York 42. Mississippi 27. Maryland 23. And Wisconsin and Indiana 22.

Globally, there are now over 18 million active cases, at 18,058,739.

There are 580,351 new cases around the world in the last 24 hours against a high of 656,099 on November 12.

The five countries with the most new cases: the United States 138,188. India 39,036. Turkey 29,281. Russia 26,683. And Brazil 24,468.

There have now been 1,458,260 deaths reported as Covid-related worldwide. Up 17% over 14 days.
