This is Coronavirus 411, the latest COVID-19 info and new hotspots… Just the facts… for November 27th, 2020.

AstraZeneca and Oxford University acknowledged a manufacturing error that throws uncertainty on their claim their vaccine was 90% effective. Oxford said some of the vials used in the trial actually didn’t have the right concentration of vaccine. The manufacturing error is said to have been corrected.

Greece's government announced a weeklong extension to their current lockdown. The virus continues to spread especially in the north of the country. The lockdown will now go to December 7. And Germany has extended restrictions through at least December 20.

California reported a record number of cases as LA restaurants prepared to close for three weeks and firefighters in Silicon Valley were enlisted as public health rule enforcers. Almost the whole state is under a 10pm to 5am curfew with bans on indoor dining and store capacity. LA has stopped restaurants from serving at all and is considering a stay-home order.

Canadians have been told by their Prime Minister they should expect to get the vaccine after other countries because they can’t make it. Justin Trudeau said, “Canada no longer has domestic production capacity for vaccines.” Plus Health Canada has to approve any vaccine.

You might want to take the Covid numbers over the next couple of days with a grain of salt. At least 14 states aren’t updating their data over the holiday. Many county and regional health departments took at least Thursday off. And remember, new cases and deaths are reported on the date they’re announced, not necessarily on the date they happened. A dip this week in numbers might be artificially low, and a spike next week might be artificially high as the numbers play catch up.  

The top 10 counties with the highest number of recent cases per capita according to The New York Times: Crowley, CO. Lee, KY. Powell, MT. Union, NM. Foster, ND. Crawford, WI. Alpine, CA. Clearwater, ID. Ness, KS. Webster, NE.

There are now 5,132,249 active cases in the United States. The current Top 10 states by number of active cases: California, Illinois, Florida, Arizona, Texas, Missouri, Virginia, Michigan, New York, and Maryland.  

The five states with the most daily new cases per capita over 7 days are North Dakota, Wyoming, Wisconsin, New Mexico, and South Dakota.

The reproduction rate is currently highest in New Hampshire, New Mexico, Washington, California, and Oregon. The states with the lowest reproduction rate are South Dakota, Illinois, Iowa, Mississippi, and North Dakota.

There’ve been a total 263,417 deaths in the US reported as COVID-related, with a current national fatality rate of 2.07%.

The states with the most new deaths reported as COVID-related: Texas 175. Illinois 156. Pennsylvania 115. Indiana 63. Wisconsin 62. California 54. Tennessee 53. Colorado 51. And New York and Arizona 44.

Globally, there are 17,474,922 active cases.

There are 632,065 new cases around the world in the last 24 hours against a high of 656,099 on November 12.

The five countries with the most new cases: the United States 108,063. India 43,174. Brazil 37,672. Italy 29,003. And Russia 25,487.

There have now been 1,430,822 deaths reported as Covid-related worldwide. Up 24% over 14 days.
