This is Coronavirus 411, the latest COVID-19 info and new hotspots… Just the facts… for September 25th, 2020.

EU officials urged member nations to move quickly to slow the latest wave of infections and try to avoid a repeat of broad lockdowns. The EU health commissioner said some countries are reporting more cases now than they did during the earlier pandemic's peak in Europe.

If you’d like to go to China, foreigners holding certain kinds of visas and permits will be allowed to do that starting next week. The new regulation lifts a monthslong blanket suspension covering most foreigners other than diplomats and those in special circumstances.

Health inspectors found safety shortcomings at 77 New York nursing homes during the pandemic, including basic infection-control violations like not having staff wear masks or wash their hands. About six homes were cited for failing to isolate infected patients from other residents.

The virus is hurting colleges in more ways than health issues. The National Student Clearinghouse Research Center says undergrad enrollment has dropped 2.5% from last fall. The decline was especially sharp for community colleges, down 7.5%

In St. Charles, Missouri it’s the movie “Footloose” made reality. The city is banning dancing after 11pm. Restaurant, bar and club operators have been informed of a temporary ban on “music activities.”

The top 10 counties with the highest number of recent cases per capita according to The New York Times: Woodward, OK. Concho, TX. Emmons, ND. Anderson, TX. Edwards, TX. Cheyenne, KS. Frio, TX. Pawnee, KS. Southampton, VA. And Lavaca, TX.

There are 2,540,358 active cases in the United States. The current Top 10 states by number of active cases: Florida, California, Georgia, Arizona, Virginia, Maryland, Missouri, Texas, Alabama, and South Carolina.

The five states with the most daily new cases per capita over 7 days are North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

The retransmission rate is currently highest in Washington, Wyoming, (a big spike in those two states with numbers around 1.34) Colorado, Missouri, and Rhode Island. While the lowest retransmission is found in Ohio, Hawaii, South Carolina, California, and Mississippi.

There’ve been a total 202,762 deaths in the US reported as COVID-related, with a current national fatality rate of 2.95%.

The states with the most new deaths reported as COVID-related: Florida 172. Texas 138. California 89. Georgia 49. North Carolina 40. Tennessee 35. Arizona 34. Illinois 30. Missouri 29. And Ohio 27.

Globally, there are 7,498,101 active cases.

There are 303,064 new cases around the world in the last 24 hours, against a high of 312,135 on September 11th.

The five countries with the most new cases: India 85,919. United States 45,355. Brazil 32,129. France 16,096. Argentina 13,467.

There have been 979,902 deaths worldwide. Down 13% over 14 days.
