This is Coronavirus 411, the latest COVID-19 info and new hotspots… Just the facts… for Wednesday August 5th, 2020. As a new school year begins, many states are making last minute changes. The Washington Post notes, in Georgia, the waitlist for online learning is sending many students back to in person classes. Mississippi has delayed the start of the school year and Ohio will require masks in schools. The Mayor of Jackson, Mississippi says he fears the state has “yet to see the worst” of the pandemic. In Florida, 52 hospitals are at ICU capacity, reports CNN. 6 states have entered a partnership to increase testing and reduce wait time in their states, according to The New York Times. Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio and Virginia will purchase 3 million tests. Novavax released Phase I data, showing that their vaccine candidate is safe and that participants developed antibodies more than 4 times higher than average. 

Ukraine recorded a record number of daily cases. The Prime Minister of Kosovo tested positive for COVID-19. Bolivia canceled school for the remainder of 2020, the government said it’s because the majority of rural areas do not have internet access. Ireland has extended mask requirements and delayed reopening pubs to the end of August.
