This is Coronavirus 411, the latest COVID-19 info and new hotspots… Just the facts… for Thursday July 30th, 2020. Over 150,000 U.S. lives have been lost due to the virus. Representative Gohmert of Texas has tested positive for the virus. Masks are now required on the floor of The House. The Head of the Federal Reserve noted yesterday, “Social distancing measures and a fast reopening of the economy actually go together. They’re not in competition with each other”. Maryland has expanded their mask mandate. Anyone over age 5 must wear a mask inside public spaces and outdoors when social distancing is not possible. Johnson & Johnson began Phase I human trials today on their vaccine candidate. Earlier studies on monkeys showed one dose protected the animals against the virus. 

Global cases have crossed 17 million. Victoria, Australia had record new daily cases and deaths on Thursday. Japan saw another record day Wednesday with daily cases over 1,000 for the first time. The Vice President of Gambia tested positive for COVID-19. Italy extended their state of emergency to October 15th. Allowing the government additional resources to contain and stop the spread of the virus. The UK extended the isolation period for those with symptoms of COVID-19 from 7 to 10 days. The German economy shrunk by 10.1% in the second quarter, the largest decline since they began keeping records in the 70’s. Brazil will resume international flights and tourism in the country, despite rising case and fatality rates.
