As world leaders and scientists gather at the UN climate summit in Madrid, we discuss the state of the climate crisis and clash between science and politics.

Guests: Michael Mann, Ed Miabach

The UN climate summit began this week in Madrid with leaders and scientists from 200 countries around the world gathering to devise plans to combat global warming. This meeting comes on the heels of a new UN report showing the continuing rise in global emissions, the world’s failure to keep them in check, and the potentially catastrophic results of this inaction. Secretary-General António Guterres started the conference warning countries that “the point of no return is no longer over the horizon. It is in sight and hurtling toward us.” This hour we’ll discuss the state of the climate crisis and the roles that politics, science, denialism and doomsdayism play in our inaction. Our guests are Penn State climate scientist MICHAEL MANN, and EDWARD MAIBACH, director of George Mason’s Center for Climate Change Communication.
