This week on CinemaJaw we get a little weird… strange… We take two totally different genres, strap them to gurneys and hook them up to our movie machine. We raise the platform and wait for the lightning to strike, creating a creature (it’s alive!) as we cover our Top 5 Sci-Fi Comedies. Science Fiction actually has a long and storied past with comedy (while the movie was questionable the Hitchhikers Guide immediately pops into mind). The genres can blend so well perhaps because by removing the bounds of what is currently “real” from comedy storytellers are given that much more room to explore. And explore we will!
hansi-oppenheimer.png" alt="" width="1080" height="608">Joining us is a woman who knows much about abominable creatures and genre blends. Hansi Oppenheimer is an independent filmmaker from NYC. Her work focuses on fandom, pop culture, and creative subcultures. She has been making low to no budget documentaries for almost twenty years, including the feature, Color Me Obsessed: A Film About The Replacements. Her latest film is entitled All Hail the Popcorn King, a documentary about splatterpunk horror writer Joe Lansdale (responsible for Bubba Ho Tep, The Drive-In, Hap and Leonard, and many other novels and short stories).
So come scream, and laugh with us in this hybrid moment.
Pop in those earbuds…
