China has launched another round of military exercises around Taiwan, in what it calls "strong punishment" of "separatist acts" on the self-governing island.

Over two days it has sent heavily armed warplanes, and staged mock attacks, as China's state-run media denounced Taiwan's newly inaugurated president Lai Ching-te.
