The CFMEU has been suspended from the Federal Labor Party and placed under independent administration following reports of alleged criminal behaviour, and links to organised crime groups.

The union-controlled toxic culture has also seen many builders make choices to not work with union-controlled sites, and impacted the number of women in the construction industry, who have low representation and high attrition rates.
