We thoroughly enjoyed this study of Cesar Romero’s Joker and the Batman of 1966. It was well worth the $4 rental, and we spark fond memories from our childhoods while forming a bunch of fun new ones with this review.
The format of the episode is simple enough. Mike 1 turns into a DJ from a horror movie carnival with our new series theme music. Then we introduce the movie with some specs before discussing the bio & casting story of the man in the make-up, Cesar Romero. There’s a non-spoiler segment on the historical significance of all the iconic affectations of the performance and the greater film at large.
Yes, we go into a spoiler section on the movie if you do wanna (re-)watch it first. Here, we dive into the particulars of the performance, the Romero Joker plotline, and to lead off, our most memorable quotes or action in the film from the clown prince of crime. We then go into the secret spice or what made it work to discuss how Romero brought this character to life before discussing “how evil was the deed,” a segment on the plots foisted by the batman & boy wonder. We discuss both the Joker’s part to play in these insane plots, and we break off into some fun discussions of how the Penguin & Riddler & Catwoman fail in their plans of world domination. Finally, we rank Cesar Romero on a scale of 1 to Joker to complete the show.
We’ll continue The Joker Character Study in new weekly installments leading into our review of the Joaquin Phoenix / Todd Phillips Joker standalone film coming out on October 4th. There will be some bonus episodes along the way. But we’ll definitely be reviewing the performances from Jack Nicholson, Mark Hamill, Heath Ledger, and Jared Leto. So stay tuned!
Mike 1 outdid himself with new theme music and a bunch of fun new drops for each segment. What’d you think of this episode & this performance from Cesar Romero? Tell us your thoughts.
