Fire and Emergency has suspended all fire permits in Canterbury and banned fires completely in Marlborough saying the hot dry conditions could lead to fires starting easily and spreading quickly. It is warning sparks from power tools or stones caught in lawnmowers could be enough to start a blaze and are asking people to exercise extreme caution.
