C Andrew Rohrmann (aka SCNTFC) is a composer and sound designer based in Seattle, Washington. Starting his career writing music for advertising, he shortly moved into other forms of media; from television to film, and from film to video games. His work for TV and film include: "Wildlife Detectives" and "The Call of The Wolfman," while his music for video games include titles such as: Virtual Virtual Reality, Oxenfree, Peggle 2 and Mr. Robot: Exfiltration. One of his more recent video game projects is OLD MAN'S JOURNEY developed by Broken Rules based in Vienna, Austria.
Old Man’s Journey is a soul-searching adventure, tells a story of life, loss, and hope. Entrenched in a beautifully sunkissed and handcrafted world, the player embarks on a heartfelt journey interwoven with lighthearted and pressure-free puzzle solving. A visual narrative about life’s precious moments, broken dreams, and changed plans, you uncover stories of the old man’s life told through beautiful vignettes of his memories. The game was released in May of 2017 and is available for iOS devices, Android, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and Steam.
In this episode, serving as both composer and sound designer, SCNTFC talks about how he came to score this project, how he wanted to blur the lines between diegetic and non-diegetic music and sound, why he chose to record himself on instruments he wasn't the most proficient at playing. And how his music not only follows the titular old man, but ends up propelling him forward through the game's story.
