The government says its tripling of the bulk-billing rate has helped to increase the rate more than 3 per cent since it was introduced around 7 months ago.

While figures from the health department show bulk-billing rates and GP services have dropped since July last year, Health Minister Mark Butler says the numbers confirm the rates were dropping but are now turning around, and won't be "fixed overnight".
