Submit ReviewBrowns blown out 39-17 by Dolphins to fall 3-6 and hurt playoff hopes with Deshaun Watson returning to practice this week. The Browns headed into the Dolphins game on Sunday knowing they’d need every victory they could possibly get to hand over a contender to Deshaun Watson, who returns to the practice field this week. It's finally time to blow up this roster and staff! In this episode Garrett Bush of the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show gives instant reaction the Browns vs. Dolphins matchup. For years the Cleveland browns have been one of the worst teams in the NFL. But this off season the Browns acquired Deshaun Watson and things seemed to be changing! The dolphins are definitely a very tough team, but the Browns organization needs to do a lot of soul searching to examine if Stefanski and Andrew Barry are the answer in Cleveland.
But they were unable to build on the euphoria and hope from their 32-13 victory over the Bengals on Monday night football that improved them to 3-5 before their bye. Instead, they were blown out 39-17 by the Dolphins on Sunday to fall to 3-6 and put themselves in dire straits for making the playoffs. They remain in third place in the AFC North behind the Ravens (6-3) and Bengals (5-4), who were both on a bye. The Dolphins won their fourth straight to improve to 7-3. Jacoby Brissett now has two more starts before Watson takes over Dec. 4 in Houston with six games remaining. The Browns will likely need to win both of them to remain in the playoff conversation with a 5-6 mark for when their elite passer returns.
It certainly won’t be easy with Josh Allen and Tom Brady up next. The Browns travel to Buffalo on Sunday to face the Bills, and then host the Bucs, who evened their record at 5-5 with a victory over the Seahawks. The Browns came into the game knowing that they’d need to slow Miami’s No. 2-ranked passing attack, led by Tua Tagovailoa and speedy receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Not only could they not do that, they had no answer for the Dolphins running game, which was 29th in the NFL heading in with only 86.9 yards per game. The Dolphins outrushed the Browns 195 to 112 and piled up 491 yards of offense to the Browns’ 297. Brissett finished the day 22 of 35 passing for 212 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. He finished with an 89.2 rating and was sacked three times.
With the Dolphins’ brilliant new head coach Mike McDaniel -- the former Browns receivers coach — calling plays, Miami gashed the Browns on the ground with the one-two punch of Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson, who rushed for 65 and 119 yards, respectively, and averaged 8.1 and 7.0. Hill caught five passes for only 44 yards, but one was a TD catch. Waddle caught four passes for 66 yards. When the Dolphins weren’t running all over the Browns, they were attacking the middle of the field, which they knew McDaniel would do. They were just powerless to stop it. Pro football focus
