We get a caregiver’s perspective on healthcare from Bradley Richards on this episode of the Perspectives on Healthcare Podcast with Rob Oliver. Of course, Bradley also gives us a bit of a patient’s perspective on healthcare but mostly focuses on his experiences as being a caregiver for his mother as she aged. This is interview 45 in the patient’s perspective interview marathon. Bradley joined the podcast from Frostburg, Maryland.

Here are 3 things that stood out as Bradley Richards gave a caregiver’s perspective on healthcare:

  • There needs to be a continuity of care for patients. Sometimes they are passed from an outpatient physician to an inpatient physician who is not as familiar with their care or history. This leads to gaps in receiving quality healthcare.
  • Patients need advocacy. Some patients can advocate for themselves and others may need a caregiver or family member to advocate for them. Having an advocate can significantly improve care and outcomes.
  • There are natural remedies and alternatives to mainstream medications. The natural remedies to not have the same side effects as synthetic solutions. They can be used in place of or at least alongside manufactured medications.
