BPR Full Show 7/6: Hot Dogs and Pickles
We started the show with competitive eating. Is there anything more American? Is Joey Chestnut an American hero? We took your calls and texts. Bill McKibben returned for a climate check-in to discuss his latest pieces for the New Yorker magazine and his blog the Crucial Years. Andrea Cabral reflected on the SCOTUS student loan decision, and a federal judge’s ruling on Biden’s contact with social media companies … plus, firework seizures across Mass. and cocaine in the White House. Brenden Quigley & Derrick Albertelli are two members of the Boston Typewriter Orchestra. They joined in Studio 3 to talk about their craft and teach J&M a thing or two about playing the typewriter. Juma Inniss is director of the for-profit group The Message, promoting media literacy and critical thinking among teens. He joined to discuss his work. Jon Gruber has a whole host of thoughts on the Ozempic phenomenon, including what it tells us about our instincts and motivations from his perspective as a microeconomist. We started with hot dogs...we ended with pickles. Grillo's is in a lawsuit over their family recipe. We asked listeners to weigh-in on keeping secret recipes, and shared pickling pointers.
