Episode 78: Sound Practices for Leadership Please take part in our podcast listener survey at: https://forms.gle/XDuYPcFjXaydkEXV6 In this bonus episode of the podcast, Vanessa sits down with Margaret Millett of Uber Technologies, Inc. Margaret is a global resilience senior manager with more than 25 years of experience leading business continuity programs. She is interested in helping interns and newcomers fill their toolkits to become future leaders in the business continuity industry. Key points include: • When talking about partnerships between departments, Margaret said, “If you are not a people person in this profession, you are going to have a challenge. It’s all about who has the data? Who can you work with to make the program successful? There are so many components to running a business continuity program, and so many people that you need to work with in the organization.” • Margaret is a big proponent of volunteering. Within your organization, volunteering will help get your name out there and form partnerships with your program. Volunteering with local planning groups like ACP, or speaking at global conferences like DRJ, can help propel your career and spread your network far beyond your organization. • The pandemic has also helped Margaret lead her staff to become “more human.” She has encouraged staff members to take time off, hold Zoom Happy Hours, and talk about things other than the company’s latest objectives.
